Reform of the municipal soccer field in Los Nogales
The Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports of the Island Council of Menorca will allocate 239,723 euros to reform the municipal soccer field Los Nogales. Specifically, this fund will be used for the renovation of the artificial turf of this sports facility.
The Island Council of Menorca and the City Council of Es Migjorn Gran have signed this Friday, December 15, an agreement to make this possible. The soccer field in Los Nogales is the only soccer facility in the municipality. In it were held over time different types of island competitions of different categories, and the use of the field has kept the practice of this sport in Es Migjorn Gran, receiving visits from clubs from other municipalities, so they have used athletes from all over Menorca.
“The Island Council was in debt with Es Migjorn Gran since Los Nogales was the only field missing to renew the turf. With this extraordinary contribution, we keep our word, we invest in the safety of CD Es Migjorn players and visitors, and we demonstrate with facts that we are committed to renewing sports facilities and promoting grassroots sport in Menorca,” said the president of the Island Council of Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca.
The Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports in recent years has signed an agreement for school-age sports with the Balearic Islands Football Federation, with which are carried out the activities of promotion, initiation and soccer competition, competitions that have the soccer field Los Nogales as a space used by schoolchildren in Menorca. “The state of the field, in terms of artificial turf, is becoming a problem for the safe practice of this activity, representing a danger of injury attending its poor condition,” explained the Minister of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports of Menorca, Joan Pons. “This was alerted by the City Council to the Insular Council of Menorca and, given the urgency detected, we have already drafted the technical and economic draft for the change of grass and the necessary economic endowment to face the renovation,” added Pons.
The City Council will assume the role of promoter of the actions and as such will be the entity in charge of planning, drafting and executing the project. In addition, the City Council is committed to promoting this sport by establishing formulas for collaboration with entities and users with the objective of making the facility socially profitable.
