SAMU061 incorporates three clinical psychologists

The Regional Minister of Health, Manuela Garcia; the Director General of Mental Health, Alicia González; the Director General of the Health Service, Javier Ureña, and the Manager of SAMU 061, Eloy Villalba, visited the facilities of the Central Coordination Centre today to meet these new professionals.

With the incorporation of these professionals, three objectives will be achieved:

  • To provide care in the immediate environment of the critical patient. In this way, the context of emergencies is extended, offering care not only to the patient but also to his or her immediate environment.
  • To provide support and assistance to SAMU 061 professionals who bear a high emotional burden in their work environment.
  • Identifying, assessing, monitoring and referring patients at risk of suicidal behaviour to the SAMU 061 headquarters.
  • SAMU 061 handled 698,439 telephone calls in 2023. In terms of interventions, it assisted 211,194 patients, 4% more than the previous year. Of the total number of patients, 171,533 required mobilisation of resources. By type of transfer, 7,448 inter-hospital and 1,377 inter-island transfers were made.
