José M. Bautista Plaza as managing director
Plaza, a specialist in administrative and civil law, will take charge of the management of the public entity responsible for managing the island’s tourism promotion in national and international markets. With his incorporation, the aim is to promote a restructuring of the FMT’s procedures and protocols so that it is capable of providing the most complete administrative and management coverage for the new tourism strategy that the Consell de Mallorca has designed and is applying.
It should be noted that the Consell de Mallorca’s Department of Tourism is completely focused on managing tourism responsibility, unlike in previous legislatures when it was linked to other competencies such as Sports. Tackling this model of support for events held on the island requires a legal profile specialising in administrative law to facilitate or speed up the work, a task that Bautista will now carry out, reporting directly to the island’s director for Demand and Hospitality, Susanna Sciacovelli.
Now, with the focus on the island’s main industry, the priority of the Consell through the FMT is to achieve the highest degree of efficiency to respond to the new strategy, whose roadmap is the Commitment to Responsible Tourism.
José M. Bautista Plaza’s professional experience
The new manager of the FMT has been a practising lawyer since 1993. A specialist in Administrative and Civil Law, his professional career has led him to work at JMB Abogados, Legalitas, as well as the law firms Garrigues and Cuatrecases.
Bautista also has extensive experience in the public sector, having been general secretary of the public company Gestión Sanitaria de Mallorca GESMA (1997-2000), director general of the Interior (1992-1997) and manager of the public company Instituto Balear de Servicios de la Juventud de la Conselleria de Presidencia del GOIB (1989-1992). He has also worked in private entities such as ISS Facility Services, SA and the Barceló Hotels & Resorts Foundation.
He also has specific training in Local Administration Law, Town Planning Law, Health Management and Occupational Risks, among other subjects.
The FMT
The Mallorca Tourism Foundation is a 100% public, non-profit entity, integrated in the Consell de Mallorca, whose aim is to promote tourism promotion of the island in national and international markets, as well as the creation of tourism products, the management of tourism services in general, and any activity that aims to promote tourism on the island.
Among the main actions that the foundation carries out to carry out its mission are the organisation and participation in national and international tourism promotional meetings; the external projection of the image of Mallorca as an audiovisual set and film tourism destination, through the Mallorca Film Commission; as well as the collaboration with the different public and private tourism agents, for the coordination of actions to promote and consolidate the different tourism products.
