The Serra de Tramuntana World Heritage Consortium announced on Monday new developments about the annual subsidies it awards. The director of the Serra de Tramuntana, Antoni Solivellas, confirmed that the 2024 call for applications will establish a system of advance payments for individual applications that may cover up to 75 per cent of the amount requested, provided that they present a bank guarantee for 120 per cent of the amount advanced.
This measure had been taken in previous calls but only by city councils and public bodies. According to Solivellas, it was long-awaited “and will give a respite to individuals who will not have to advance all the payment of the improvements we subsidize”. In the call for 2024, which is expected to come out at the end of February 2024, this possibility will already be included. The island director detailed these new developments during the meeting of the Permanent Roundtable of the Serra de Tramuntana, the participatory body that brings together the most representative entities of the Serra de Tramuntana.
The call for applications, which will establish a maximum deadline of one month from its publication, has a total amount of 1,960,000 euros for all the subsidy lines, which cover expenses for the recovery of ethnological and architectural elements with heritage value and for the recovery of the agricultural landscape and its surroundings; for the maintenance of the agricultural landscape through cooperatives, guilds and protected designations of origin; for entities that promote land stewardship and for the revision and/or updating of municipal catalogues of public trails.
Promotion of the Serra de Tramuntana label
The island director also announced new measures to promote the Serra de Tramuntana products that already carry the Serra de Tramuntana World Heritage label, establishing new criteria for sponsorship of activities in the Serra. “We will require that the sponsors use products with the Distinction at different times, such as refreshment stations, prizes or catering,” he said. The aim is to promote the implementation of this Consortium initiative to showcase the products of the Serra de Tramuntana, raising awareness of their special characteristics.
