The president of the Consell Insular de Menorca, Adolfo Vilafranca, and the councillor of Economy and General Services of Menorca, Maria Antonia Taltavull, have visited this Thursday, February 8, the Bisutex fair in Madrid, where Menorcan fashion jewelry companies have the opportunity to showcase their work.
The president and the councillor wanted to support the six Minorcan companies participating in the fair, which is organized by the Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Costume Jewelry (SEBIME) and opened today at the IFEMA fairgrounds.
Specifically, the participating Minorcan companies are Anga Bisuteria, Inbime-Mahón, Estampadora Mahonesa, Mir Fornituras, Roman Camps i Vanderly. All will be present at IFEMA until Sunday, February 11, the closing day of Bisutex.
“We give all our support to the Menorcan fashion jewellery sector. We believe that the industry is very important to diversify the island’s economy. Costume jewelry is a non-seasonal sector, which provides work with all year round,” explained the president of the Consell Insular de Menorca. “Menorca is a reference in the fashion jewellery sector, and the island’s companies are very competitive internationally. In addition, they have made a great effort to be environmentally sustainable,” added Vilafranca.
Currently, SEBIME has 37 Minorcan companies registered. Within this group of companies are included all those related to the metal sector, both costume jewellery as well as components, gift items or services for the same sector.
The Consell Insular de Menorca, through the Department of Economy, supports the jewelry industry through three main lines: “The first, a nominative aid to the Association of 70,000 euros for promotion, fairs, management and training. In the same way, the Department of Economy also offers a line of aid to the productive sector of Menorca, approximately one million euros per year, of which the island’s fashion jewellery companies have access,” said the Councilor of Economy and General Services of Menorca. “Thirdly, the Consell finances with 68,000 euros, through the Chamber of Commerce, the contracting of a security service without a weapon and with an explosives detection dog at the airport of Menorca”, added Taltavull. This service is made at the request of SEBIME and other transport companies so that it is not necessary to open manually the opaque goods which cannot be identified through the ordinary scanning procedure.
Bisutex celebrates these days the first fair of the two that will be held this year 2024. In this first contact, the proposals for the Spring-Summer season are presented, an innovative and prescriptive offer of trends where the leading brands of the sector can open new business opportunities and where they offer content focused on the development of digitization, innovation and sustainability, supporting young designers and emerging companies. In September, the second fair will take place with proposals for the Autumn-Winter season.
This Thursday, taking advantage of the visit to Bisutex, the president of the Consell Insular and the councilor of Economy and General Services have also met with ICEX officials. Among them with the director of Fashion and Cultural Industries, Carmen Jordán.
