The rondalles intangible cultural heritage of the island
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the vice-president and councilor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, have met, this week, with the institution Francesc de Borja Moll, who has conveyed the importance of taking this measure to allow the intangible heritage of the island to continue to be present in the Mallorcan culture.
In fact, Galmés emphasizes that “mossen Alcover collected fables of almost 250 storytellers from 33 localities of the island and, in this way, saved them from disappearing and preserved the traditional language”. In addition, he assured that the Consell de Mallorca will also carry out cultural activities related to the Mallorcan rondalles to keep alive the essence of these manifestations that, in a few months, will be declared intangible cultural heritage of Mallorca.
Mallorca, the only island that does not have intangible heritage regulations since the Heritage Safeguarding law was passed in 2019
The Consell regrets that Mallorca is the only island that does not have intangible heritage regulations since the Heritage Safeguarding law was passed in 2019. The institution denounces the laziness of the previous government team and criticizes that it has been five years since the institution has not fulfilled its duty, something they have done in Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera. The new political team of the insular institution has prepared, during the last six months, the regulation and will begin its processing in a few months.
The vice president of the Consell de Mallorca and councilor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, has detailed that five years ago the Govern de les Illes Balears approved the Law for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage (law 18/2019). From here, each island council had to develop a regulation and an inventory to be able to protect different practices, representations or emblematic techniques of each island. Roca criticizes that, during the last years, “they have been taking pictures saying that they would protect the one they could not protect, because they did not have the necessary mechanism”.
Now, five years later, it is the Department of Culture and Heritage of Antònia Roca who has elaborated this regulation, starting from scratch, and who begins with its processing in order to advance in the protection of the intangible heritage of Mallorca.
