The objective line of this year’s program revolves around young people and music in Catalan, in an attempt to bring the Catalan language to the youngest audiences in the form of concerts in an attractive way, such as music.

The series will open with a tribute performance to Matilde Escalas in the Santa Maria de Sineu church on the 24th of February. The next two concerts will take place on Friday the 1st of March in the car park of the Teatro Principal in Santanyí with a performance by Bluesmàfia and Es Saligardos, and in the Auditorium of Ferreries, Menorca, with a performance by Mary Lambourne and Gori Matas. The third concert will be held on the 3rd of March with Maria Florit in Plaça d’Espanya in Sant Joan de Labritja, Ibiza, and the fourth and final performance will be by Júlia Colom on the 20th of April in Sant Francesc, Formentera.

In addition, the event also presented the collaboration between the IEB and the majority of the town councils of our islands, established through the signing of different agreements to be able to carry out various concerts of music in Catalan by musical groups and performers of the Balearic Islands.

Thanks to these agreements, the IEB will grant each town hall a subsidy of up to 3,000 euros for the hiring of musical groups or performers from the Balearic Islands who sing in Catalan. In total, the amount of the IEB’s contribution through these agreements can reach 168,000 euros. To date, the total of the signed agreements involves 84% of the local entities of the Balearic Islands.

The agreements must be carried out between 1 January and 31 October 2024, excluding July and August. The first of these concerts was held on 3rd February in Cala Rajada (Capdepera) with a performance by the children’s musical group Tipi Tipi Top. The next scheduled concerts are on 25th February, by Música Nostra, in the Plaça de la Vila in Sencelles; on 2nd March, the concert “Paraíso” by Joana Gomila and Laia Vallès, in the Sala Albert Camus in Sant Lluís; on 21st April, Amulet, in the Capdepera Theatre, and on 4th May, Ánimos Pàrrec, in the Santuario de la Mare de Déu de la Consolació in Sant Joan.

The director of the IEB, Llorenç Perelló, took part in the presentation ceremony and pointed out that “one of the fundamental axes of this year’s cycle of concerts is to promote the use of the Catalan language among young people through music”. Perelló adds that “these concerts are a sample of the use of Catalan in different areas of everyday life”.
