Promote responsible tourism
This is a collaboration agreement to materialize some of the aspects of the Pledge in which Mallorca Preservation can contribute its experience and trajectory, as it aims to preserve the natural beauty and environmental excellence of Mallorca.
The objective of both partners is to join efforts to consolidate the destination as a place where responsible tourism predominates. The collaboration is based on the premise that the qualities and values that make this island a wonderful place to live, as well as a wonderful place to visit, must be protected and regenerated.
The Mallorca Responsible Tourism Pledge, a manifesto that began its journey in November 2023, already has a significant number of adherents, including the UNWTO, more than half of the municipalities of Mallorca, the FEHM, different entities and companies and, from now on, Mallorca Preservation.
The Pledge arises from the conviction that by working closely with local and international institutions, our long-standing tourism partners and with the support of visitors and residents, we can shape the future of travel to Mallorca in a way that balances the needs of both travellers and our environment.
That is why among the first joint initiatives that MAPF and Consell de Mallorca-Fundació Mallorca Turisme will carry out is the “Welcome!” campaign, which last year began to spread Mallorca Preservation to influence tourists visiting the island to contribute to protection and, through small actions, we can all contribute to change.
The campaign will initially be carried out in different media in Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as on social networks.
In Lenz’s words, “the signed commitment goes beyond a mere letter of intent: both the Consell and Mallorca Preservation are united with the responsible residents and visitors of Mallorca to produce real action, conserve nature and regenerate man-made damage. This renewed eco-consciousness can serve as an example for other mature destinations worldwide.
Mallorca’s Responsible Tourism Pledge
The Pledge encompasses eight main areas of action that adhere to different sustainable development goals, thus reinforcing the core message of the Commitment:
Mallorca is going to be your home for a while, take care of it as if it were your own. – To remember that the environment deserves the civic behavior of its visitors.
Appreciate and protect nature, it will reflect it. – It is encouraged to enjoy the nature of the island, but always with respect.
The traces of unforgettable moments will be the only thing you leave behind. – Minimizing ecological impact on an individual basis is fundamental to conscientiously consume natural resources.
Local is the key. Buy, consume and live locally. – Support the local economy, with the consumption of gastronomic and artisanal products.
Observe marine life. Just take pictures, don’t waste more time. – Respect and enjoy the seabed.
Rs to protect the environment; Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. – Living more sustainably, recycling and being aware of the elements that pollute.
Communities at heart. Glocal guests: global tourists, local hearts. – Guests and residents are the ones who have to take care of Mallorca.
Soul of a wonderful destination to live and visit at the same time. – An incitement to adhere to the Commitment, to remember that preserving the beauty of Mallorca is a common effort.
