The three most important contemporary art events on the island
The Consell de Mallorca joins the three most important contemporary art events on the island. The Misericòrdia Cultural Centre will take part in Art Palma Brunch, Art Palma Summer and the Nit de l’Art (Night of Art), giving a voice to new presences and proposals from the ‘part forana’. In this way, the insular institution recovers its relationship with the Art Palma Contemporani association and establishes a new collaboration agreement that will enable the Consell de Mallorca to position itself in these three cultural events.
This was announced this Thursday by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, who stressed that “the island’s largest cultural centre cannot turn its back on culture and, from now on, will feature contemporary art at different times of the year”. Next Saturday, 23rd March, the Consell de Mallorca will take part in Art Palma Brunch with three proposals from the part forana: the BIBI Gallery, the Galeria Maior and CC Andratx. Even so, the formula to be followed from 2025 onwards at Art Palma Brunch will be that of new presences: “we want to give visibility to new creators who have never had the opportunity to exhibit their works by offering them the Misericòrdia during the month of March”, explained the vice-president of the Consell de Mallorca and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca.
From here, Galmés explained, “during Art Palma Summer, on the 6th of June, the winner of the Mallorca Prize for Contemporary Photography will be exhibited, which this year will be Tono Arias, and during the Nit de l’Art (Night of Art), the proposals from the northern part of Mallorca will be on display”.
Visit to the Mallorcan gallerists and artists present at ARCO
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, and the vice-president and councillor of Culture and Heritage, Antònia Roca, visited Mallorcan gallery owners and artists who are currently exhibiting at the ARCO contemporary art fair in Madrid. Galmés and Roca spoke with the heads of Galería Pelaires, Kewenig, L21 and Fermay and with the relevant Mallorcan artists with works in ARCO in non-Mallorcan galleries, such as Amparo Sard, Bernadí Roig, Susy Gómez and Robert Ferrer.
The artists have expressed their satisfaction with their involvement to the authorities and, in fact, Antònia Roca has assured them that different exhibitions are already being designed with renowned Mallorcan artists.
