The Commission against Violence in Sport of the Balearic Islands, chaired by the councillor for Tourism, Culture and Sport, Jaume Bauzà, today approved in an extraordinary session the creation of a pilot plan for video-monitored stands, a unified plan of good practices aimed at clubs and the launch of a communication campaign aimed at informing and raising awareness about correct behaviour, attitudes and practices in the field of sport.
The Commission against Violence in Sport of the Balearic Islands
The extraordinary session of this commission was motivated, according to Bauzà, by the cases of violence in sports that have occurred in recent months. In this regard, the councillor for Tourism, Culture and Sport stressed the “need to work positively to eliminate all types of violence, from insults to aggression, from the fields and courts of the Balearic Islands”.
During the commission, it was agreed that, together with the federations, a preliminary study will be carried out to determine which sports facilities are most likely to be included in the pilot plan for video-surveilled stands, which, pending the legal report, will be implemented during the 2024-2025 season.
The members of the commission also agreed to call for a greater presence of the security forces as a preventive measure and in order to have a quicker response in the event of cases of violence.
They also approved the creation of a unified plan aimed at sports clubs in the Balearic Islands committed to the fight against violence in sport and the launch of a communication campaign, focusing on parents but also targeting sportsmen and women, aimed at encouraging correct and beneficial practices and attitudes to enjoy sport in a safe and healthy environment.
