The Consell de Mallorca opens the term to apply for individual economic aids

To improve the quality of life by promoting the well-being and autonomy of the elderly. This is the objective of the individual financial aid 2024 of the Mallorcan Institute of Social Affairs (IMAS) that people aged 65 and over can apply for to cover the purchase of technical support material (such as hearing aids, glasses or dental prostheses, among others) or mobility (wheelchairs, adapted beds, walkers, etc.).

The procedure for submitting applications begins on 3 April and will be operational for 30 calendar days. In total, the Consell de Mallorca, through the IMAS, has earmarked up to 375,000 € to subsidise expenses incurred between 25 May 2023 and today. “We know that this is a long-awaited aid and we intend that no one who needs it is left without it. For this reason, although we have set aside an initial 275,000 euros, we plan to increase it by a further 100,000 euros if demand requires it,” explained the president of IMAS and island councillor for Social Welfare, Guillermo Sánchez.

Specifically, and as published in today’s BOIB, the call covers the cost of utensils or devices that allow the physical or sensory recovery of people aged 65 or over registered in Mallorca, allowing them to prevent, supplement or complement their limitations and functional deficiencies and, therefore, help them to enjoy their day to day life as independently as possible. Along these lines, the councillor explained that “we want to respond to the specific problems of the elderly, help them on their way to promoting their autonomy and, if this is not possible, simplify their day-to-day lives as much as possible, with their well-being in mind”.

Applications may be submitted until the 2nd of May inclusive, in person at any of the island’s registry offices, at the official registries of the General State Administration, the Government of the Balearic Islands and the municipalities, as well as from 9 am to 2 pm at the central registry of IMAS and its citizen service offices in Inca, Manacor and Palma. They can also be applied for any day and time online through this link at the IMAS electronic office https://seu.conselldemallorca.net/fitxa?key=148018.

To facilitate processing, interested parties can consult their doubts through the IMAS free telephone number 900 100 444, which operates from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.
