30th anniversary of the first Music Band Meeting in Santanyí

The event, which will take place on Sunday the 19th of May, will begin at 11:30 am at the Santanyí Music School with a parade that will reach the town’s main square. The bands from Son Servera, s’Almudaina, Pollença, Sóller, Manacor, Inca, Marratxí, Cala d’Or, Selva, Llucmajor, Sa Pobla, Campos, Muro, Binissalem, Calvià, Santa Margalida and Montuïri will take part in the event. This will be followed by a joint performance by all the bands and a brotherhood meal.

The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, explained today that the goal is to foster ties and unity between the associated bands in a musical, working and, at the same time, festive atmosphere. The Consell de Mallorca played a fundamental role in this task in the 1980s and 1990s, when it encouraged the creation of music schools and activities. That is why the president stresses that it will be a popular event of the first order with social, cultural and tourist interest.

The president of the Federación Balear de Bandas de Música y Asociaciones Musicales, Joan Carles Julià, recalled that these groups play a fundamental role in the cohesion of the popular culture of the different municipalities of the island, as they are the ones who enliven the patron saint festivals, processions and other events in the towns.
