30th anniversary of the first Music Bands Meeting

The event began at 11:30 a.m., at the Santanyí Music School, with a parade that reached the town’s main square.

This was followed by a joint performance by all the bands and a brotherhood lunch in which the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Llorenç Galmés, took part.

Galmés stressed today that this event aims to foster ties and unity between the associated bands in a musical, working and festive atmosphere. The Consell de Mallorca played a fundamental role in this task in the 1980s and 1990s, when it encouraged the creation of music schools and activities.

The president enjoyed the popular event which, he assured, was of great social, cultural and touristic interest. The insular institution wanted to present each musical group that participated with an antique trumpet part from La Balanguera.

The president of the Federación Balear de Bandas de Música y Asociaciones Musicales, Joan Carles Julià, pointed out that these groups play a fundamental role in the cohesion of the popular culture of the different municipalities on the island, as they are the ones who enliven the patron saint festivals, processions and other events in the towns.

This year, the Consell de Mallorca has allocated 120,000 euros to the Federación de Bandas de Música, a budget that represents an increase of 50% over last year.
