FOSIB presents the “Festival Bellver 2024” and a new series of #sonampertu concerts

Between 14th June and 7th August, the Bellver Castle will host seven concerts with internationally renowned artists such as Valentina Nafornita, Pablo Ferrández, Leticia Moreno and Jonathan Cohen, among others.

The FOSIB has also presented a new cycle of 11 #Sonampertu chamber concerts throughout the islands, from the 6th to the 23rd of June 2024.

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Jaume Bauzà; the regional secretary of Culture and Sports, Pedro Vidal; the manager of the Orquesta Sinfónica Islas Baleares Cristina Martínez and the chief conductor of the OSIB, Pablo Mielgo, have presented today at a press conference the traditional cycle Festival Bellver 2024. This new edition consists of seven concerts in the Bellver Castle, at 9.30 p.m., between the 14th of June and the 7th of August 2024, with a programme in which opera will be the protagonist.

Festival Bellver 2024

“The Symphony Orchestra is one of the top references and a fundamental pillar in the union of tourism and culture with an offer of international quality”, said the councillor, who expressly thanked the City Council of Palma, in this case, Rafael Brunet, Director General of Music and Performing Arts, for making the Bellver Castle available.

In this edition, the Symphony will offer three Lyric Galas in which arias by Mozart, Bellini, Puccini and others will be performed. A gala on 14 June, with some of the leading singers of the Salzburg Festival; on 17 July, with the soprano Valentina Nafornita, and on 7 August, with the leading singers of the Hamburg Opera.

In addition to these three events, the 27th of June will feature Elgar’s cello concerto with soloist Pablo Ferrández and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral”. On July 4th, the Symphony will perform Teleman’s Suite of Ancient and Modern Nations, Handel’s Water Music, Suite No. 1, Rameau’s The Gallant Indies, Suite, and Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, conducted by Jonathan Cohen. On July 25th, the OSIB will perform The Gypsy Baron, opening of Strauss II; Ravel’s Tzigane; Sarasate’s Fantasia on Carmen and Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 “Italian”. For this concert, the violin soloist Leticia Moreno and Joji Hattori will conduct.

It is important to make a special mention of the closing concert of the Pequeña Sinfónica on 11th July, for the second consecutive year, in the incomparable setting of the Bellver Castle. This project aims to promote symphonic music and bring it closer to the world of children, bridging the gap between them. Habanera, baile andaluz, by Arbós; Mozart’s Concerto for oboe K.314 with the young oboist Martín Lopesino and Spartacus (selection) by Khatxaturian, conducted by Martín Baeza will be performed.

The Bellver Festival 2024 offers a variety of the highest artistic quality for all audiences. Top names, and collaborations with international institutions such as the Salzburg Festival or the Hamburg Opera. As the chief conductor of the OSIB said, “a summer full of music where the Symphony Orchestra is once again the main cultural reference of the Islands, not only for the audience in the iconic Bellver Castle but also as the international image of the Balearic Islands in the world”.

As the Symphony’s manager explained, tickets are already on sale for 30 euros in the courtyard and 25 euros in the arches, and can be purchased through the OSIB’s website (www.simfonicadebalears.com).

In addition to these seven concerts, the Symphony will participate in three extraordinary concerts of external production: the traditional benefit concert at the Bodegas de Macià Batle on 20th July, at 9.30 pm, with a programme dedicated to John Williams; two concerts at the Festival de Cabo Rocat (2nd and 4th August, at 9.30 pm) with soloists such as Jonas Kaufmann, Sondra Radvanovsky, Pretty Yende, Marco Armiliato and Lisette Oropesa.

Sonampertu

In addition, this summer the Orquesta Sinfónica Islas Baleares (Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra) is resuming the #Sonampertu project with a total of 11 chamber concerts spread out over Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera between the 6th and 23rd of June. Audiences will enjoy a variety of programmes ranging from classical to contemporary and adaptations of pop music. #Sonampertu is a multi-faceted project that connects activities in the performing, educational and social spheres and is supported by the Fundación La Caixa, which was also present at the press conference with Maria Cruz Rivera, the regional director of the savings bank’s Balearic Islands branch.

Of these eleven concerts, they will be distributed as follows: 4 concerts in Mallorca (Centro Penitenciario, Teatro de Petra, Colonia de Sant Pere and Auditori de Porreres); 2 concerts in Eivissa (Sala de plenos del Ayuntamiento de San Juan de Labritja and the Centro de Cultura Can Jeroni in San José de sa Talaia); 4 concerts in Menorca (Auditorio de Ferreries, Convento de San Diego, Orfeón Mahonés and Pla de Sa Creu) and 1 in Formentera in the Patio de Sa Senieta. In this way, the Symphony Orchestra will be present on all the islands.

It is worth mentioning that on the 21st of June, European Music Day, several chamber ensembles of the OSIB will perform five concerts simultaneously on all the islands.

Within this cycle, special mention should be made of the concert on the 19th of June at the Palma Penitentiary Centre, for inmates only (no audience). This type of initiative is part of the OSIB’s social concerts.
