The Unitats Educatives Específiques en Centres Ordinaris are intended for pupils with special educational needs.

The ratio of UEECOs is 7 pupils or less if children with severe motor disabilities, autism or personality disorder predominate.

The Consell de Govern of today, 7th June, has agreed to modify the Budget Law to include the financing of the educational outings and school material needed by the UEECO classrooms of the subsidised early childhood education centres. The amount that the centres will receive this year will be 1,200 euros per classroom.

1,200 euros for educational outings and specialised material

The Unitats Educatives Específiques en Centres Ordinaris, or UEECO classrooms, are intended for pupils with special educational needs who require specific, high-intensity support measures in order to learn and progress. The ratio established for these classrooms is seven pupils, and is lower in the case of predominantly pupils with severe motor disabilities, autism or personality disorder. Due to these circumstances, school trips can be very costly. The Govern trusts that this 1,200 euros allocation will alleviate this situation.

There are a total of 51 UEECO classrooms on the islands, 44 in public schools and 7 in subsidised schools.

These units are staffed by a specialist in therapeutic pedagogy and a technical teaching assistant and have an annual budget of 8,345.14 euros, to which the 1,200 euros for educational outings must be added.
