The programme Les Elegides of the Fons Mallorquí. Consell de Mallorca.
The Consell de Mallorca celebrates a meeting of the programme of the Fons Mallorquí, Les Elegides, to present the results of the work and the commitments made by the elected women of the local administration. In May the First International Meeting of Women Mayors took place in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, with the participation of the president of the Fons Mallorquí, Llorenç Perelló and the vice-president and councillor of Presidency, Antoni Fuster, together with a delegation of elected women from Mallorca and another 80 women mayors and councillors from different Latin American countries.
The Consell de Mallorca, through the Fons Mallorquí, allocates 64,698 euros to projects for the elimination of political violence against women and for access to water in Bolivia. The latter were visited by the delegation that travelled to the country in May.
The creation of the Les Elegides space seeks to highlight the importance of women’s equal participation and representation in decision-making processes in local government agendas. The aim of today’s meeting is to promote spaces for reflection and debate among elected women in order to ensure the effective implementation of public policies that enable local economic development.
To this end, a videoconference system has been set up in the plenary session of the island institution, with the participation of Baskeskola, the school for local elected women in the Basque Country. There will also be a connection with the Association of Women Councillors and Mayors of Bolivia (ACOBOL).
