Forty-nine family and community medicine residents who have completed their training in Mallorca took part today in the graduation ceremony, held in the auditorium of the Anselm Turmeda building of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). The event was opened by the director general of the Health Service, Javier Ureña. He was accompanied by the manager of Primary Care of Mallorca, Carlos Raduán, and the head of studies of the Multiprofessional Teaching Unit of Family and Community Care, Maria Albaladejo. Once the presentation was over, the residents were presented with commemorative medals. The closing ceremony was led by the Director General of Health Research, Training and Accreditation, Vicens Juan Verger.
This is the last graduation of residents who have completed their residency this year. This is a special class, as they began their training in 2020, with the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, in exceptional circumstances from the healthcare point of view. It has been a class that has been able to adapt at all times to the different situations and challenges experienced.

Forty-nine family and community medicine residents have completed their training in Mallorca
During a training period of four years, they have achieved their competencies as family and community specialist doctors through a very demanding training programme in which they have done rotations in different areas, such as health centres and hospitals, mental health units, SAMU 061, palliative care units, Women’s Health Unit, etc. In addition, they have passed a theoretical-practical programme with skills related to research, communication, professional ethics, health education community care, etc., to be able to offer users and the community care based on the best possible quality and safety.
The Family and Community Medicine Unit of Mallorca was created in 1979, with the first Spanish promotion of specialists through the residency system. In 2012 it was constituted as the Multiprofessional Teaching Unit of Family and Community Care of Primary Care of Mallorca by incorporating the training of nursing specialists. Currently, its accredited teaching capacity is fifty resident medical interns (MIR) and 24 resident nurse interns (EIR).
