The aim is to promote the exhibition and sale of local agricultural and food products and direct contact between producers and consumers.
Farm owners, producers’ associations, regulatory councils, agricultural processing companies, food cooperatives, cooperative unions and food producers operating in the Balearic Islands can take part in the Fair.
The Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) has published the call from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment to select participants for the Local Product Fair, an event included in the Balearic Islands Day Fair 2025. The aim, explains Joan Llabrés, director general of Agri-food Quality and Local Produce, is ‘to promote the exhibition and sale of local agricultural and food products and to establish a meeting point between producers and consumers.’ ‘This exhibition provides a platform for local producers, who will be able to market their food products directly,’ added Llabrés. The deadline for applications begins on Monday 21 October and ends on 29 November 2024.

The Regional Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment publishes the rules for participating in the Local Product Fair, included in the Balearic Islands Day 2025
The Local Product Fair will take place from 28 February to 2 March 2025, and will only be open to holders of agricultural holdings, producers’ associations, regulatory councils, agricultural processing companies, food cooperatives, unions of cooperatives and food producers operating in the Balearic Islands. In addition, as a requirement of this call, only the following products may be marketed: agricultural, livestock and fishery products grown, raised or fished in the Balearic Islands, and products produced on farms; other unprocessed foodstuffs produced by primary producers in the Balearic Islands; foodstuffs marketed under a protected designation of origin, protected geographical indication, geographical indication or guarantee mark of the Balearic Islands and processed products and foodstuffs made up of more than one ingredient which have as their primary ingredient any of the products mentioned in the above points and which have been produced in the archipelago.
As explained in the terms and conditions, there are 50 spaces available for local produce to take part in the event, and spaces will be reserved taking into account double and triple insularity: there will be five stands for Ibiza, eight for Menorca and two for Formentera. ‘It should be noted that there will be free transport for operators between islands and that places will also be reserved for small farms, which will share places with other small farms,’ explains the director general. ‘We wanted this call to be public, with a transparent selection process and an assessment committee made up of officials from the Regional Ministry. Moreover, all the selection criteria are published and the evaluation depends on the type of farm and product (organic, protected designation of origin, etc.),’ explained Llabrés.
On the Diada de las Islas Baleares there will also be a space dedicated to the fishing sector, specifically in the Plaça de la Drassana, where Opmallorcamar and the fishermen’s guilds will offer tastings of local fish and seafood, and there will be demonstrations of traditional fishing gear. Tastings, live cooking demonstrations and many other activities are also scheduled to take place over the three days.
