The General Directorate of Mental Health has announced the upcoming conference “Espais que cuiden, persones que habiten” (“Spaces that care, people who live”), an event that will explore the impact of architectural design on emotional wellbeing, coinciding with the Open House Palma 2025 festival.

The initiative aims to promote dialogue between architecture and mental health, highlighting how the design of physical spaces can support recovery and improve emotional balance. Through a multidisciplinary approach, the sessions will demonstrate how architecture can serve as a therapeutic tool for creating environments that nurture both body and mind.

The event will take place on 12 and 13 November at the Parc Sanitari Bons Aires —the former psychiatric hospital in Palma— and will bring together professionals from the health, social care, and architectural fields, both local and international.

The programme includes lectures, round tables, and participatory workshops, examining how inhabited spaces —from clinical settings to public and residential areas— can shape physical and mental health. A guided route will also explore historic buildings in Palma linked to wellbeing, such as the Llar de la Infància, the Germanetes dels Pobres residence, the General Hospital of Mallorca (former Hospital de la Sang), and the Parc Sanitari Bons Aires itself.
