Mallorca’s sports advisory body has held a plenary meeting in which all members unanimously approved the strategic objectives and action plans for 2026. The session provided an opportunity to review the past year’s achievements and to define future priorities for sport and physical activity across the island.
The meeting was chaired by the Second Vice President and head of Environment, Rural Affairs and Sports, Pedro Bestard, together with the Island Director of Sports, Toni Prats, and the technical sports team. Mallorca’s Sports Advisory Body Sets Strategic Goals for 2026
Key initiatives included in the 2026 Strategic Plan feature a new exercise prescription programme for patients with various health conditions, backed by a budget of €800,000, aimed at strengthening the link between physical activity and public health. Other major developments include the opening of the Sant Ferran Sports Centre climbing wall, the only facility of its kind on the island, and the activation of outdoor sports areas recently installed across local municipalities.
The meeting also announced the expansion of existing working committees. In addition to municipal sports, federated sports, tourism, and environmental committees, a new health-focused committee will be created, incorporating socio-health experts to address the growing relevance of this field.
Representatives from sports federations, professional associations, municipal organisations, and all political groups represented at the island level attended the session. Established three years ago, the advisory body aims to provide expert validation of island-wide sports programmes, ensuring they respond to emerging social, municipal, and federated needs.
Throughout 2025, the body has developed tools such as the Sports Events Guide and several protocols to improve the efficiency of sports facilities, which will be presented to local councils at the beginning of the new year as practical support for municipal sports management.
