The Balearic Water and Environmental Quality Agency (ABAQUA) has launched the procurement process for the renewal of a key section of the drinking water supply network serving Platja de Muro. The project involves an investment of €2.6 million and an estimated execution period of six months.

The works will focus on the stretch between the Son Carbonell bridge and the Son Sant Joan spring reservoir, within the municipality of Muro. This infrastructure is essential to ensure a reliable water supply in the area, particularly during peak demand periods, and will also strengthen supply to nearby towns such as Alcúdia and Can Picafort.

The upgrade is required due to the end of the current pipeline’s service life, affected by ageing and structural limitations of the existing materials. The project forms part of a preventive maintenance programme aimed at guaranteeing a more stable, safe and sustainable water service for residents and the local economy.

The plan includes the replacement of 2.5 kilometres of pipeline, substituting the existing material with ductile iron, which provides improved durability, mechanical strength and hydraulic efficiency. Most of the route will follow the existing easement, helping to minimise environmental and traffic impacts. The works will be carried out in phases, alongside a specific traffic management plan.

The base tender budget amounts to €2,600,873.37 (VAT included), with additional costs for site management and health and safety coordination. Funding will come from the Sustainable Tourism Tax (ITS) under the 2024–2025 programme and will be spread over two financial years.
