A citizen survey has been launched across the Balearic Islands to gain a clearer understanding of housing needs and demand throughout the region. The initiative represents a key step in the rollout of the Housing Observatory, a tool designed to support data-driven housing policies and strategic decision-making.

The survey will be carried out over the coming months and is expected to reach a representative sample of at least 4,000 households across all islands and a wide range of municipalities. Through interviews with residents, the study will gather information on access to housing, residential preferences and household financial capacity.

The results will be used to produce detailed indicators on housing demand and need, distinguishing between access and improvement, ownership and rental options, as well as other relevant factors such as the type of housing sought. This will provide a comprehensive picture of the residential market from the perspective of citizens.

All information collected will be treated as strictly confidential and protected under current statistical regulations. The survey forms part of the official statistical activities planned for the relevant year and contributes directly to the gradual implementation of the Observatory.

In its initial phase, the Housing Observatory will organise data into several core areas, including existing housing stock, available supply, new housing development, urban regeneration and the profile of demand. Its purpose is to bring together currently fragmented information and offer open, accessible data to improve understanding of housing challenges in the Balearic Islands and to inform future public policies.
