Schools across the Balearic Islands will begin installing on-site weather stations as part of an educational initiative that promotes data-driven learning and citizen science. A total of 100 meteorological stations will be gradually deployed throughout the archipelago.

The project is designed as a medium-term initiative aimed at bringing environmental monitoring, data literacy and scientific research closer to students, while encouraging the development of STEAM skills through the analysis of real-world data collected within the school environment.

Implementation will take place over three academic years. In the initial phase, around twenty schools from different islands will join the network and start working with the stations from February onwards. Additional phases will progressively expand participation until the full network of one hundred schools is completed.

Participating schools will be responsible for installing and maintaining the stations, using the collected data for educational purposes and taking part in training and outreach activities. Data such as temperature, humidity, wind, rainfall and solar radiation will be made available through an open digital data platform, allowing real-time visualisation and comparison across different locations.

The project also includes specialised teacher training for primary, secondary and vocational education staff, enabling educators to interpret environmental data and design classroom projects linked to climate and sustainability topics.

Through this initiative, schools become active hubs for knowledge generation and citizen science, helping students gain a deeper understanding of environmental challenges and the characteristics of their local territory.
