Mallorca is strengthening its commitment to international cooperation and solidarity by encouraging residents to take part in the “Vacances en Pau” 2026 programme. This initiative enables Sahrawi children from the Tindouf refugee camps to spend the summer months on the island in a safe, welcoming and healthy environment.

Within this framework, the Minister for the Presidency, Toni Fuster, held a working meeting with the president of the Asociación de Amigos del Pueblo Saharaui de las Islas Baleares, Catalina Rosselló, to review ongoing cooperation efforts and reaffirm institutional support for projects benefiting the Sahrawi people.

The meeting highlighted the value of the “Vacances en Pau” programme, which offers Sahrawi children access to basic medical care, nutritional support and the opportunity to live with host families during the summer, temporarily escaping the extreme conditions of the desert. In this regard, the public was reminded that the registration deadline for host families ends on Thursday, the 26th, and citizens were encouraged to seek information and participate before the closing date.

The discussion also underscored the financial support allocated to various international cooperation projects aimed at improving living conditions in the refugee camps. For 2026, a total investment of 124,000 euros is planned through the Majorcan Fund for Solidarity and Cooperation, supporting a range of social and humanitarian initiatives.

Notably, 80,000 euros will be allocated to a child health programme ensuring pediatric and nursing care, as well as nutrition and vaccination initiatives for children up to five years of age. In addition, a specific contribution of 19,000 euros will support the implementation of the “Vacances en Pau” programme in Mallorca, ensuring that the initiative can be carried out under appropriate conditions.
