A participatory process has been launched to engage citizens and social stakeholders in shaping the future of environmental education in the Balearic Islands. This initiative aims to update the Balearic Environmental Education Strategy, a key framework guiding public policies in this field, which now requires revision to address current environmental, social, and economic challenges.

Under the theme “What do we need to learn and act together?”, the process encourages collective reflection on emerging issues affecting the islands. It seeks to build a shared vision that strengthens environmental education as a strategic tool for sustainable transformation and civic responsibility.

Launches a participatory process for citizens to define the future of Environmental Education

The initiative is aligned with the transition agenda of the Pact for Economic, Social, and Environmental Sustainability of the Balearic Islands, a collaborative platform focused on promoting a balanced and responsible development model. Within this framework, environmental education plays a central role in fostering awareness, values, and active participation among citizens.

The participation period will run from March 18 to May 15, 2026, and includes both online and in-person engagement channels. Participants can contribute through the Citizen Participation Portal by completing surveys and submitting proposals. Additionally, meetings and sector-specific sessions will be held during April and May, targeting organizations, professionals, and groups connected to environmental, educational, and social sectors.

This participatory phase will help identify priorities, address emerging challenges, and enhance coordination among institutions and stakeholders, avoiding duplication of efforts and improving efficiency. The outcome will be a strategic document outlining future action lines for environmental education, to be presented in July 2026 as a roadmap for the coming decades.
