The Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra is set to perform two concerts on April 9 and 10, 2026, at the Cervantes Theatre in Málaga as part of a cultural exchange program with the Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra. This initiative strengthens institutional collaboration and enhances the orchestra’s presence within Spain’s national music scene.

Conducted by Pablo Mielgo, the program will feature a selection of iconic works from the European symphonic repertoire. The performance will open with Beethoven’s Leonora Overture No. 3, a composition known for its dramatic intensity and expressive depth. This will be followed by a selection of lieder by Franz Schubert, performed by baritone Benjamin Appl, widely recognized for his interpretation of German vocal music.

The evening will conclude with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, one of the most celebrated works in classical music history. Its distinctive opening motif and powerful structure have established it as a universal symbol of resilience and destiny.

These concerts provide an important platform to showcase the artistic excellence of the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra beyond its home region, reinforcing its role in the national cultural landscape. The exchange program, previously initiated in Palma, continues in Málaga, further strengthening cultural ties between the two cities through music.
