Bus services will be affected throughout the day and relocated to alternative stops across Palma.

Train services may also be impacted between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.

Palma’s Intermodal station will remain partially closed this Sunday, April 19, due to an accident simulation that will affect public transport services. This downtime will also be used to carry out improvement works on the bus station’s प्रवेश and exit ramps, with the aim of enhancing safety and operational efficiency.

The simulation, organized by Serveis Ferroviaris de Mallorca in coordination with the Regional Directorate of Emergencies and Interior of the Balearic Government and the Mallorca Transport Consortium, aims to test activation and deactivation procedures for the various agencies and services involved in the event of an accident at the Intermodal station. It will also focus on training command centers in planning and decision-making during emergency situations, such as mass evacuations, assistance to those affected, and the rescue and transfer of victims, evaluating both response capacity and coordination between participating bodies.

Palma Intermodal station partially closes this Sunday due to accident simulation

The Directorate General of Emergencies and Interior (DGEI) will play a key role in the exercise. Given the simulated severity of the emergency, the PLATERBAL (Balearic Islands Territorial Civil Protection Plan) will be activated to support local authorities, including Palma Fire Brigade and Local Police, who will have already activated the station’s Self-Protection Plan and PlaTerPalma.

The activation of PLATERBAL will allow the deployment of additional human and logistical resources to the emergency operation. From the 112 Emergency Coordination Center, an emergency technician will be dispatched to the scene to act as a contact person for assisting, informing, and supporting victims and their families. Their role will include identifying fatalities, assisting survivors, and providing families with the necessary information and support.

Additionally, psychological support services and social workers will be mobilized to the Intermodal station to provide assistance to victims and their relatives.

The simulation will take place during Sunday morning, while paving and improvement works on the bus access ramps will be carried out in the afternoon.
