Ibiza has hosted its first Island Firefighters Day, an institutional event held at the Island Fire Station to recognize the dedication, professionalism, and service of firefighting personnel. The event also paid tribute to retired firefighters and acknowledged years of service within the corps.
The official responsible for Environment and New Technologies, Ignacio Andrés, emphasized that the event represents a long-overdue recognition of a profession defined by commitment and responsibility. He highlighted the physical and mental demands of the role, as well as the ability to respond effectively under high-pressure conditions.
He also pointed to the ongoing development of the firefighting service through new recruitments and planned investments aimed at strengthening operational capacity. Among these measures is the creation of new sub-stations in Santa Eulària and Sant Josep to enhance coverage across the island.

The island president, Vicent Marí, underlined the essential role of firefighters in ensuring public safety in Ibiza. He described their work as vital, courageous, and consistent, emphasizing their ability to act calmly and effectively in complex emergency situations.
He further referenced recent interventions that demonstrated the efficiency and professionalism of the teams, noting that their work involves sacrifice, rapid decision-making, and a strong sense of vocation.
During the ceremony, diplomas were awarded to recognize years of service among members of the corps, along with a special tribute to retired firefighters. Particular recognition was given to Bruno Roig Ribas and Miguel Sevilla Pérez, the latter having led the service for over three decades.
The event brought together island authorities, representatives of various emergency and security services, as well as firefighters and their families. It is intended to become a recurring event, serving as a platform for institutional and social recognition of a vital public service.
