Mallorca launches a new smart platform providing information on road network incidents
The Consell de Mallorca has launched VISICAR, a new smart platform designed to provide real-time information on the condition of Mallorca’s road network. The system enables users to quickly check current incidents, road closures and traffic restrictions while also improving coordination between public administrations, public services and organisations involved in mobility management.
The platform incorporates advanced geospatial technology and has been optimised for mobile devices. Its redesigned interface provides clear visual information, making it easier to identify both the location and impact of incidents directly on the map. A severity-based visual classification system and specific icons distinguish between closed roads, traffic restrictions, incidents requiring additional caution and disruptions with a lower impact on traffic.

One of VISICAR’s main new features is its ability to provide information not only about ongoing incidents but also about scheduled works and future disruptions. The platform includes a system for managing planned notices and notifications, helping users anticipate changes that could affect journeys across Mallorca.
Municipalities will be able to receive advance information about road disruptions within their respective areas. The information will also be accessible to the media, other institutions, transport companies and the general public, helping them plan journeys more efficiently.
The platform will be particularly useful during events expected to generate significant increases in traffic. During the solar eclipse on 12 August, for example, VISICAR will provide real-time information on affected roads, helping residents and visitors plan their journeys according to current traffic conditions.
VISICAR has also been developed to support emergency management. Operators from the Consell de Mallorca’s Roads Department will keep the platform updated, enabling critical information to be distributed rapidly and simultaneously to emergency services and supporting faster and better coordinated responses.
Future phases of the project are expected to expand these capabilities by allowing incidents caused by adverse weather and other extraordinary circumstances to be recorded and published. These may include flooding, landslides, fires and other events that could affect the safety of Mallorca’s road network.
With the introduction of VISICAR, Mallorca strengthens the digital management of its road infrastructure and provides citizens, institutions and mobility operators with a new tool aimed at improving information, road safety and journey planning across the island.
