The Balearic Islands have unanimously agreed on the ten Sundays and public holidays when commercial premises will be authorised to open in 2027. The decision was reached by the Inter-Island Trade Commission, with local councils also being given the option to replace two of the selected dates with local holidays.
The approved opening dates are 3 and 17 January, 1 and 25 March, 2 May, 1 and 28 November, and 6, 12 and 19 December.
The calendar was agreed following discussions involving representatives of small and large retailers, trade unions, island councils and municipal institutions.
The meeting was chaired by Alejandro Sáenz de San Pedro, the Balearic Islands’ Minister for Enterprise, the Self-Employed and Energy, alongside Maria Antònia Sansó, Director General for Enterprise, the Self-Employed and Commerce.
Business organisations represented at the meeting included AFEDECO, PIMECO, ASCOME, PIMEF, PIME Formentera and ANGED. The UGT trade union also attended, together with representatives of the island councils of Mallorca, Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera.
Other participants included the Directorate General for Consumer Affairs and the Federation of Local Authorities of the Balearic Islands (FELIB).

Balearic Islands agree on ten Sunday and public holiday shopping dates for 2027. 26 December excluded from the shopping calendar
The Commission decided not to include 26 December among the authorised shopping dates, recognising its status as a deeply established traditional holiday in the Balearic Islands.
Under the agreed arrangements, municipal councils will be able to change two of the designated opening dates to accommodate local festivities, subject to the established procedure.
Among the dates considered for municipal substitution, 17 January and 1 March received the greatest support.
The 2027 calendar therefore sets out ten authorised Sunday and public holiday shopping dates across the Balearic Islands, while retaining the agreed provision for local adjustments.
