The project, with a budget of 865,390.38 euros, aims to reconnect the centre with the San Francisco neighbourhood.
The works will take approximately 6 months to complete.

The Mayor of Inca, Virgilio Moreno, and the Minister of Economic Model, Tourism and Labour of the Government of the Balearic Islands, Iago Negueruela, today presented the project to renovate the Plaza del Mercado Cubierto. The event was also attended by the councillor for urban planning, Andreu Caballero, the councillor for strategic projects, along with other members of Inca council and the project’s technical representatives.

Renovation work has recently begun on the Plaza del Mercado de Cubierto, with a budget of 865,390.38 euros. “This reform will allow the square, which is located in a neuralgic area of our city, to acquire the prominence it deserves and, on the other hand, will contribute to revitalize the space and energize the neighbourhood of San Francisco, reconnecting it with the city centre, “said Moreno.

During the visit, Negueruela emphasised the importance of the funds from the tourist activity being able to reach all the municipalities of Mallorca, thanks to these lines of subsidies promoted by the Consorcio Bolsa de Alojamientos Turísticos (CBAT). In this specific case, the CBAT provides 500,000 euros for the project; the legal maximum, as the organisation co-finances projects with the town councils contributing a maximum of 500,000 euros or 80% of the total cost of the project.

Therefore, the reform of the Inca Covered Market Square aims to give urban continuity from Carrer Major to Carrer de l’Om to facilitate accessibility to the centre from the San Francisco neighbourhood, replacing the finishing materials and modifying the entrance to the car park. Specifically, the project mainly involves the removal of the access ramp to the car park of the Covered Market building and a section of the wall and pergola of the existing building in the square, as well as the construction of a new pergola on the access scale to the existing supermarket.

In addition, the waterproofing, the paving of the square and surrounding streets and the street lighting will also be renewed. New planters with vegetation and new urban furniture will also be installed. The works will take approximately 6 months to complete.
