IES Isidor Macabich (Ibiza) today hosted the presentation ceremony of the Balearskills 2023 competition, a competition that brings together vocational training students from different specialities. The event was attended by the director general of Vocational Training and Higher Artistic Education, Antoni Baos; the regional director of Education in Ibiza and Formentera, Margalida Ferrer; the head of the Planning and Participation service, Olivia Caballero de Segovia; the coordinators of the skills in the different specialities of the competition, and Maria Vidal, principal of IES Isidor Macabich.

This year’s edition will take place between 4 and 11 May 2023 in three schools in Mallorca (CIFP Pau Casesnoves de Inca, CIFP Joan Taix de sa Pobla and CIFP Juníper Serra de Palma) and one in Menorca (IES Pasqual Calbó i Caldés de Maó).

Taking into account the current range of training cycles on offer, there are 16 modalities in which students from the Balearic Islands can participate: Bodywork repair, Web development, Electrical installations, Floristry, Hairdressing, Aesthetics, Automotive technology, Cookery, Restaurant and bar service, Automotive painting, Landscape gardening, Refrigeration and air conditioning, Network systems administration, Social and health care, Patisserie and Hotel reception.

Promotion and dissemination of VET studies

The Balearskills competition takes place every two years and aims, among other things, to promote and disseminate VET studies; to promote VET studies and disseminate the good practices of students in schools and society in general, highlighting the professional skills acquired by these students; to stimulate and motivate VET students, as well as to influence their academic performance and professional future; to recognise the professionalism and dedication of VET teachers, who have an impact on the quality of VET; and to promote relations between the business world and the educational world, i.e. between professionals from different sectors, teachers and students, to link the business and labour reality with VET.

This competition, which is carried out based on practical tests, makes it possible to select the students who will represent the Balearic Islands in the Spainskills 2023 state competitions, organised by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Participating in the Balearskills competition are the competing student; the tutor, who is responsible for preparing and training the competing student; the coordinator of each skill, who is appointed by the Directorate General for Vocational Training and Higher Artistic Education and who is responsible for coordinating the skill for which he/she has been appointed and for drawing up the technical documentation for the competition; and the jury, who is responsible for marking the tests.
