A total of sixteen shops in Campos now bear the plaque that distinguishes them as Emblemàtics Balears, a project promoted by the Vice-presidency and Regional Ministry of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory, which aims to make visible and protect the traditional commercial activity of the municipalities. This lunchtime, the Director General of Commerce of the Govern, Miquel Piñol, and the Mayoress of Campos, Francisca Porquer, handed over to the owners the signs that will be installed on the façades of the shops. The event was also attended by the managing director of the IDI, Mariona Luis, and the councillor for commerce, Rafel Adrover.

One of the aims of this project is to publicise the uniqueness of each municipality through its emblematic establishments. Although the initiative focuses on listed shops, the rest of the commercial fabric benefits, as the emblematic establishments also act as an element of attraction for visitors from inside and outside the islands.

The shops listed today as emblematic are:

Ca na Mel (pottery and ceramics): well established.

Ca na Mongeta (haberdashery): with history and heritage.

Can Melero (agricultural and animal products): with its history and heritage.

Can Verdera (footwear, accessories and household equipment): emblematic

Carnisseria Can Beques (butcher’s shop): emblematic

Ferreteria Can Nofre (ironmonger’s shop): with a history

Forn de Can Bet (bakery and pastry shop): rooted in history

Vidal Fotografia i Vídeo (photography): emblematic

The Institute for Business Innovation of the Balearic Islands (IDI), an entity dependent on the Regional Ministry of Energy Transition, Productive Sectors and Democratic Memory and responsible for the project together with the Directorate General of Commerce, has published a manual so that the town councils themselves can identify the businesses that meet the requirements to be emblematic. In fact, a series of categories have been established to unify the criteria among all the participants in the project. Thus, a business can be classified as rooted (with a singular trade or product), with history (with more than 75 years of life as a general rule, with exceptions after 50 years of age), and with heritage (with outstanding architectural elements). Establishments that meet these three categories are emblematic. The platform through which the project is made known is the website www.emblematicsbalears.es.

“Emblematics de les Illes Balears” is a living project that is growing as more town councils and businesses join. Currently, there are already 25 municipalities with a total of 280 shops in the Balearic Islands.

The municipalities that already have listed establishments are Alaró (4), Alcúdia (7), Algaida (5), Campos (16) Consell (6), Esporles (5), Felanitx (12), Inca (14), Lloseta (7), Llucmajor (11), Manacor (25), Marratxí (12), Palma (73), Pollença (9), Porreres (8), Santanyí (7), Sa Pobla (7), Selva (1), Alaior (5), Es Mercadal (1), Ferreries (11), Maó (18), Santa Eulària des Riu (5), Sant Josep de sa Talaia (5), Formentera (Sant Ferran, 1 and Sant Francesc Xavier, 5). By category, there are 75 emblematic establishments; 90 with roots and history; 26 with heritage and history; 49 with history; 33 with roots; 4 with roots and heritage, and 3 with heritage.
