The Department of Transition, Tourism and Sports of the Council of Mallorca, the RCD Mallorca and the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, promote a campaign to support the practice of adapted sports on the island. The campaign illustrates two sports currently practised on the island by people with functional diversity, in collective modalities, such as football, and also in individual ones, such as sailing.

The players of the Genuine RCD Mallorca and the Mallorcan sailors Sergi Roig and Violeta del Reino, Spanish Champions 2023 in adapted sailing, belonging to the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, are the protagonists of this campaign that focuses on the practice of adapted sports, as the basis of social sport, without barriers and inclusive. Both clubs collaborate in the values programmes of the island’s institution, with workshops based on a more diverse sport.

The campaign, which consists of a video that will be shown today on the scoreboards of the Mallorca Son Moix pitch and will be disseminated through social networks, focuses on concepts that promote inclusion, one of the pillars of the EsportNet campaign, which the Consell de Mallorca is working on for the 2022/23 season on the island’s pitches and courts. The video, made jointly with the players of the Real Mallorca Foundation and the sailors of the Club de Vela Puerto de Andratx, shows a sporting environment that in Mallorca is not only professionalised but goes beyond purely sporting concepts and includes a more social and democratic sport.

Andreu Serra, Minister of Transition, Tourism and Sports, stressed that “from the Consell we want to raise awareness of a sport without barriers, which allows to reach more people and encompasses all abilities. Sport in itself is diverse and in the case of people with functional diversity it has a very important social and therapeutic function”.

In fact, Serra recalls that “the Consell de Mallorca is supporting the promotion of sport and the implementation of the bases of the football league “Insuperables”, together with the Foundation of the Football Federation of the Balearic Islands and the Real Mallorca Foundation”. And he adds “Mallorca, as a land of champions, also excels in the field of adapted sports, as we have seen this week with the triple gold medal of cyclists Joan Reinoso, Martin Berchesi and Joan Sansó in the national Paralympic championships”.
