In the first four months of 2023, the Balearic Islands recorded the best start to a year in its history in terms of tourism, in terms of spending and profitability of both national and international visitors. Specifically, up to April, the highest tourist expenditure in the historical series for this period has been recorded, 2,467.59 million euros, 28.6% more than the previous best record, which was in 2019.

The best tourist spending in the first four months of the year

Moreover, as shown by the Tourism Expenditure Survey (Egatur) released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE) and Ibestat, which adds the variable of the national tour, the average expenditure per visitor during the first four months of 2023 was 969.47 euros, 21% above the data for 2019 in the same period. And the average daily expenditure per tourist – both national and international – is also at a high level, 148.58 euros, above the data for 2019 or 2018 (+10%), the highest to date in the first four months of the year.

According to Egatur, the Balearic Islands accumulated during the first four months of the year expenditure of 2,089 million euros by international tourists during their holidays in the archipelago, to which must be added the 378.5 million disbursed by domestic tourists.

Tourist flows

In terms of visitor arrivals, the islands closed April with the arrival of 1.47 million tourists, both international and domestic. Specifically, 1.18 million international visitors and a further 293,201 domestic visitors arrived. Thus, the Balearic Islands closed the first four months of the year with a total of 2.54 million visitors, the highest figure in the entire historical series, as shown by the Border Tourist Movement Survey (FRONTUR) and Ibestat.
