The Teatro Principal, applying the psychosocial risk protocol of the institution, has decided to terminate the contract with stage director Hugo de Ana, which had been signed exclusively for the production of La Traviata. The decision was taken to favour the coexistence and good working atmosphere of the production, which will open on 17, 19 and 21 June. The Croatian National Theatre production will continue with the rest of the production’s creative team.

During the first week of rehearsals, on May 27th, the Principal received a formal complaint to Hugo de Ana, denouncing inappropriate comments from the stage director towards several members of the artistic team.

The theatre decided to act immediately and on the same 27th sent an email to the team, warning that the Principal would not accept any behaviour out of place given its internal working protocols.

During the following week, no further complaints were reported and the theatre made a special follow-up of the development of the working sessions. However, in recent days some of the comments that prompted the complaints from members of the production team have been repeated. The theatre management has therefore decided to terminate the contract with Mr De Ana.

As of today, the rest of the artistic and technical team will continue the work of restarting the production, so rehearsals will continue as planned. Due to these circumstances, the stage director will not sign the staging, although he authorises the use of his materials.

La Traviata will be performed on the scheduled dates, next Saturday 17th, Monday 19th and Wednesday 21st June, and the staging will be carried out as it was conceived for its premiere at the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb.
