Isabel Vicens, president of Agromallorca SAT, received the award from the regional director of Santander in the Balearic Islands, Celia Torrebadella. Vicens dedicated the award to the team that makes up Agromallorca and emphasised Agromallorca’s commitment to local produce, innovation in processes and the training of its workers.

The ceremony was also attended by the president of the Chamber of Commerce, Eduardo Soriano; the acting director general of Industry of the Government, Antoni Morro; the head of Santander’s Balearic Islands territorial business, José Severino González, and the president of the Serra Group, Carmen Serra.

The SME of the Year Awards aims to recognise the performance of small and medium-sized enterprises, whose activity is fundamental for the creation of employment and the economic development of the island. It is aimed at companies with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of less than 50 million euros. This year they reach their seventh edition with a record number of applications received in the Balearic Islands, 79 in total from different productive sectors, a figure only surpassed by Madrid and Barcelona.

Agromallorca participates in the Dual Vocational Training programme of the Conselleria d’Educació, promoted by the Chamber of Commerce, hosting workers in training. It also provides ongoing training for its workers in good agricultural practices, occupational health and hygiene, risk prevention and other more specific aspects necessary for the different jobs. Since 2020, Agromallorca has been participating in a European project that analyses the synergies between the agri-food and tourism sectors, with the aim of rebalancing value chains and optimising resources based on technological innovation.

In addition to the SME of the Year award, four runners-up prizes were awarded at the event in the categories of Internationalisation; Innovation and Digitalisation; Training and Employment; and Sustainable Business.

The runner-up prize for Internationalisation was awarded to the company, Contain Design, a design studio for lamps, lighting and highly engineered furniture. They combine local materials and handmade pieces with high-tech 3D printers.

The runner-up prize for Innovation and Digitalisation went to Balantia Energy Solution, a company dedicated to providing comprehensive services in energy efficiency and sustainability founded in 2011, which supports its clients in achieving their energy-saving and CO2 emission reduction goals.

The runner-up prize for Training and Employment was awarded to the company Balear de Uniformes, patented since 2022 as My Uniform, which has revolutionised the textile sector, specifically the uniforms sector, since its foundation in 1990 with innovative and disruptive solutions through the digitalisation of its processes, with a clear commitment to circularity, with the recovery of post-consumer waste.

And finally, the runner-up prize for Sustainable Company Illes Balears goes to Refineria Web, a company with 20 years of experience in technology, digitisation, consultancy and digital marketing. Its sustainable policies bring together a set of good practices, such as the use of 100% renewable energy or robotics to optimise consumption.
