Menorca’s intangible cultural Heritage 2023

It should be remembered that the aim of the campaign is to make the elements of our heritage known by the hand of its bearers, i.e. those people or communities that keep them alive and pass them on to new generations, so that they can explain their experiences and what the heritage they recreate represents through short videos that illustrate their knowledge and transmit the idea of human value as a source of knowledge between generations. Because only what is known is appreciated, and the aim is for the entire Menorcan community to feel involved in safeguarding our heritage.

The elements that form part of the new campaign are Jaleo, as a musical composition inseparable from our fiestas; the jota, to support the candidacy for UNESCO World Heritage status; s’Avia Corema, which is one of the elements typical of Lent and which has been revived in recent times; and finally the Mahonese game, a recreational and sporting practice that dates back to the 18th century and which is at risk due to a lack of practitioners but which, from the Council, we want to promote and disseminate as an element that is part of our culture.
