The acting councillor of Finance and External Relations, Rosario Sánchez, today presented the prizes and diplomas for this year’s edition of the Europe Day 2023 music competition. This is a competition of interpretations of the anthem of Europe with any type of instrument, organised by the Govern de les Illes Balears, through Europe Direct Illes Balears and the Directorate General of Foreign Relations.

Prizes for the Europe Day 2023 music competition

The winning performers were: Ivet Taltavull Gomila (children’s soloist category), and the groups formed by Nil Buj Porcel, Marc Bonet, Manel Suau Castillo and Daniel Javier Aguilar (children’s group category), and Gemma Fornaguera Bernat, Roger Fornaguera Bernat and Jordi Fornaguera Baldrich (mixed group category).

The winners received a diploma from the hands of the councillor Rosario Sánchez in the courtyard of the headquarters of the Conselleria de Hacienda y Relaciones Exteriores, in the presence of the director of External Relations, Antoni Vicens, during a ceremony in which a representation of the winners took part. The prizes for this year’s musical competition were 300 euros for soloists and 600 euros for musical groups.

The competition was aimed at all kinds of musicians – professionals, students, teachers, members of conservatories, music schools and bands, among others – from all the islands, and the members of the jury were the director of the Conservatoire de Menorca, Maria del Mar Vidal; the director of the Escola de Música de Sa Pobla, Karen Alonso, and the pianist Valentí Moldovan.

The competition was part of the programme organised by the Government’s Directorate General of External Relations on the occasion of Europe Day. This celebration commemorates the peace and unity of the continent, on the day when, in 1950, the then-French Foreign Minister, Robert Schuman, gave one of the most important speeches of the 20th century in Europe, the Schuman Declaration, in Paris, to call for a new form of political cooperation and reconstruction after a war between European nations, the Second World War.
