New councillors of the Consell d’Infància i Adolescència del IMAS

Specifically, 12 children between 6 and 12 years old, and 34 adolescents from 13 to 17 years old, took possession yesterday as new counsellors of this participatory body that was formally created by IMAS in 2014 and is the only one of its kind in the whole State. Two young former councillors, one of whom participated in that first Consell, were in charge of conducting the event.

“Giving continuity to spaces like this that respect the right of children and adolescents to be heard and where they can express themselves freely, helps us to know their concerns, opinions and demands, and thus be able to offer them services tailored to their needs and improve the care we give them,” said the councillor Guillermo Sanchez, at the event.

The president of IMAS thanked the young people for “your involvement in making the Consell de l’Infància i l’Adolescència as fruitful as possible. Both you, who today become new councilors, and the children and adolescents who have preceded you, represent a wide range of young people in residential or family foster care and, therefore, you have a great responsibility. You must feel very satisfied with your work. I am proud”.

IMAS takes care of 1,050 children or adolescents in Mallorca. Of these, 448 live in some of the residential centers that IMAS manages directly or indirectly on the island, and another 602 are in family foster care.

This will be the ninth Consell de l’Infància i l’Adolescència of IMAS. In addition to the president of IMAS, the event was attended by the insular director of Centers and Programs of Integral Attention to Children and Adolescents, Magdalena Ramis, who will act as president.
